Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday exuded confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will return to power in Assam for a third consecutive term, asserting that the alliance will secure more than 90 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a massive roadshow in Guwahati, Shah said that there is strong public support in favour of the NDA government and that the people of the state are eager to re-elect the alliance. “Assam is ready for the NDA’s third term. We will win over 90 seats,” he said while interacting with supporters during the campaign.
The Home Minister is on a two-day visit to the poll-bound state to boost the party’s election campaign. His itinerary includes multiple rallies, public meetings, and interactions with party workers across key constituencies.
Highlighting the achievements of the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Shah credited the administration for significant progress in infrastructure development, healthcare, and economic growth in the state. He also claimed that insurgency and violence have declined substantially during the NDA’s tenure.
The 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly is set to go to polls on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4, 2026. The BJP-led alliance is aiming to improve its previous performance and retain power with a comfortable majority.
The visit by Shah marks an intensification of the BJP’s campaign in Assam, as political parties step up efforts to mobilize voters ahead of the high-stakes election.
