The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday released its list of candidates for 17 constituencies for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, while the National People’s Party (NPP) announced nominees for three seats, adding momentum to the multi-cornered contest in the state.
The TMC, which has been attempting to expand its footprint beyond West Bengal, has fielded candidates across a mix of constituencies in Assam as part of its strategy to emerge as a viable political alternative. Party sources indicated that the selection reflects a balance of local representation and organisational outreach in key regions.
On the other hand, the NPP has opted for a limited but focused approach, nominating three candidates, including senior leader Daniel Langthasa. The party is expected to concentrate on select pockets where it has organisational presence.
With several national and regional parties already announcing their candidates, the electoral battle in Assam is shaping up to be highly competitive. Issues such as identity, land rights, and regional aspirations are likely to dominate the campaign as parties intensify outreach efforts ahead of polling.
