UPPL Unveils BTC-Focused Manifesto, Eyes Key Role in Assam Polls

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Thursday released its manifesto for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, placing strong emphasis on the development and governance of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region.
The manifesto outlines the party’s vision for strengthening infrastructure, improving education and healthcare, and ensuring inclusive growth for all communities in Bodoland. UPPL president Pramod Boro said the document reflects the aspirations of the people and focuses on bridging developmental gaps, particularly for smaller and marginalised groups.
Highlighting its performance in the BTC administration, the party claimed it has taken significant steps toward peace, stability, and progress in the region. It also stressed the need to safeguard the political and land rights of indigenous communities.
Signalling its strategy for post-election scenarios, the UPPL said it would not extend unconditional support to any political alliance. Instead, the party made it clear that its backing would depend on assurances related to Bodoland’s development and the protection of regional interests.
Confident of its electoral prospects, UPPL leaders expressed hope of securing a majority of the 15 Assembly seats in the BTC region. The party believes such a performance could position it as a decisive force—or “kingmaker”—in the formation of the next government in Assam.
The announcement comes amid intensifying political competition in the Bodoland region, where UPPL is seeking to consolidate its base while facing challenges from rivals such as the Bodoland People’s Front.
