Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said members of the state’s indigenous Muslim community have expressed support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contributed ₹11,000 to the party’s fund during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking at a public event in Rangoli Pathar in Naharkatia of Dibrugarh district, the Chief Minister said the donation symbolised the community’s support for the party. He thanked members of the indigenous Muslim community for contributing to the party fund despite observing the fasting month of Ramadan.
Sarma said the gesture reflected growing trust between the indigenous Muslim community and the BJP. He also expressed hope that members of the community would continue to extend their support and blessings to the party.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came during his visit to Naharkatia, where he addressed a gathering as political activities gather pace in the state ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
In recent months, the BJP leadership in Assam has intensified outreach efforts to different communities across the state as parties begin preparing for the next electoral battle.
