Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh will inaugurate the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference 2026 in Guwahati, marking the beginning of a major two-day national-level deliberation on the future roadmap of India’s textile sector.
The conference, being organised by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Government of Assam, will bring together textile ministers from across the country, senior officials of the Centre and States, industry leaders and other key stakeholders. The event aims to strengthen Centre–State coordination and evolve strategies to boost growth, investment and global competitiveness in the textiles and apparel sector.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita are also expected to attend the inaugural session, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles. An exhibition showcasing India’s rich textile heritage, handlooms, handicrafts and recent innovations is also scheduled to be inaugurated alongside the conference.
According to organisers, the conference will focus on a wide range of issues, including expansion of textile exports, development of world-class infrastructure, promotion of sustainable and eco-friendly practices, encouragement of technical textiles, and strengthening of the entire textile value chain. Special emphasis will be laid on flagship initiatives such as the PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks.
A dedicated session on the textile potential of the North-Eastern region will also be held, with participation from ministers and officials of North-Eastern states. The session will highlight the region’s strengths in silk, handloom, handicrafts and natural fibre-based textiles, and explore ways to integrate local producers with national and global markets.
The National Textiles Ministers’ Conference is expected to play a key role in shaping policy direction and fostering collaborative efforts to position India as a leading global hub for textiles and apparel in the coming years.
