Pema Khandu on Saturday campaigned in Assam’s Nowboicha constituency in support of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), expressing confidence in the party’s prospects while highlighting progress in resolving long-pending inter-state boundary disputes in the Northeast.
Addressing a campaign gathering, Khandu backed AGP candidate Basanta Das and said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would secure a decisive mandate in the constituency. He attributed this confidence to what he described as sustained development and political stability under the BJP-led alliance in Assam.
Khandu emphasised that Assam’s development is central to the overall growth of the Northeast, noting that improved connectivity, infrastructure, and governance have strengthened regional integration over the past decade.
Referring to the decades-old boundary disputes between Assam and neighbouring states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Khandu said significant progress has been made through dialogue and cooperation. He noted that many contentious areas have already been resolved, with only a few requiring final demarcation.
The Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister added that joint surveys and the installation of boundary pillars are underway as part of the settlement process. He expressed optimism that the remaining issues would be addressed after the conclusion of the ongoing Assam Assembly elections.
Khandu also highlighted the close economic ties between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, stating that despite its vast geographical expanse, Arunachal depends on Assam for manpower and logistical support, underlining the importance of continued cooperation between the two states.
The visit comes amid an intense campaign phase in Assam, with NDA partners aiming to consolidate their position across key constituencies ahead of polling.
