The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in Assam following the announcement of the 2026 Assembly election schedule by the Election Commission of India.
The MCC bars the government from announcing new schemes, projects, or financial benefits that could influence voters. It also prohibits the use of official machinery for campaigning.
Political parties and candidates must avoid hate speech, bribery, and appeals based on caste or religion, while campaign activities are subject to strict regulation and monitoring.
The code will remain in effect until the completion of the election process, ensuring free and fair polls across the state.
