Assam Congress Launches ‘Time for Change’ Campaign, Targets CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday launched a statewide political campaign titled ‘Time for Change’, intensifying its attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the ruling BJP ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The campaign was formally unveiled at the Congress headquarters in Guwahati, where party leaders said it aims to highlight what they described as the failures of the state government on issues of governance, corruption, unemployment, and rising prices. As part of the initiative, the Congress released campaign materials targeting the Chief Minister and questioning his leadership and policies.
Senior Congress leaders said the campaign would be carried across districts through public meetings, door-to-door outreach, and awareness programmes to connect with voters and present the party’s vision for change in Assam. The party asserted that the people of the state were facing growing economic distress and administrative shortcomings under the current government.
Addressing the media, Congress leaders accused the BJP-led government of neglecting public welfare while focusing on political rhetoric. They claimed the ‘Time for Change’ campaign reflects public sentiment and the need for accountability and transparency in governance.
The launch of the campaign marks a renewed effort by the Congress to regain political ground in Assam, where the BJP has maintained a strong hold in recent elections. Political observers see the move as part of the opposition’s broader strategy to consolidate support ahead of the Assembly polls.
There was no immediate response from the ruling BJP to the Congress campaign.
