A serious public health scare has emerged in an Assam town after authorities confirmed cases of Rabies following a mass dog bite incident that left several residents injured.
According to official sources, multiple people were attacked by suspected rabid stray dogs within a short period, triggering panic among locals. The injured were rushed to nearby healthcare facilities, where doctors administered emergency treatment and began post-exposure anti-rabies vaccination.
Health officials later confirmed that the dogs involved in the attacks were infected with rabies, a highly fatal viral disease transmitted through the saliva of infected animals. Authorities have urged all bite victims to complete the full course of vaccination to prevent complications.
In response to the incident, district administration and veterinary teams have launched containment and surveillance measures in the affected area. Efforts are underway to identify and capture stray dogs, while sanitation and monitoring drives have been intensified.
Officials are also conducting awareness campaigns, advising residents to seek immediate medical attention after any animal bite and avoid contact with stray or aggressive animals.
Experts warn that rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms develop but is entirely preventable if timely treatment is provided. The incident has renewed concerns over the rising stray dog population and gaps in vaccination coverage in several parts of Assam.
Authorities have assured that steps are being taken to prevent further spread and ensure public safety.
