Dr. Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam, laid the foundation stone for a state-of
the-art 1,000-capacity auditorium at the Janata Bhawan Complex in Dispur, Guwahati, today. The project
is a key component of the Master Plan for the redevelopment of the Secretariat Complex and Ministers’
Colony, conceptualized under the guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. The
auditorium is expected to be completed and ready for inauguration by April 2027.
The auditorium will feature a modern elevated gallery spread across two levels—ground and first floor—
with a combined seating capacity of 773, complemented by a balcony that accommodates an additional
240 individuals. Facilities will include a dedicated conference hall, general and VIP waiting lounges, an
in-house pantry, and restrooms designed for men, women, and persons with disabilities.
Designed to host official events, cultural programs, and high-end meetings, the new auditorium aims to
enhance the functional infrastructure of the Janata Bhawan Complex and provide a venue befitting the
growing needs of the Secretariat.
During the ceremony, Design Associates unveiled the comprehensive Master Plan for the redevelopment
of the Janata Bhawan Complex. Speaking at the event, Dr. Kota encouraged Secretariat staff and officials
to contribute their suggestions for improving infrastructure, indoor seating logistics, and amenities within
the complex.
Dr. Kota emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent within the Secretariat and proposed
forming art, culture, and sports groups to participate in various celebrations and events held on the premises.
